LAS VEGAS — A devastating accident in North Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of a 9-year-old girl, following a suspected DUI crash, as confirmed by North Las Vegas police.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Ann Road and Simmons Street. North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) arrived on the scene to find two vehicles involved in a serious collision.
According to preliminary reports, a Chevrolet Corvette was traveling southbound on Simmons Street when it attempted to turn left onto Ann Road while the traffic light was red. Simultaneously, a Jeep SUV was approaching the intersection from the opposite direction, moving northbound on Simmons Street with a green light.
The crash happened when the Jeep, unable to avoid the Corvette, collided with its side, causing the Jeep to roll over. The impact was severe, leading to significant damage to both vehicles.
Emergency responders found the 9-year-old passenger in the Corvette unresponsive. Despite the efforts of several bystanders who performed lifesaving measures, she was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Jeep sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. However, the driver of the Corvette, identified as 63-year-old Christina Sorenson, showed signs of impairment. Sorenson was subsequently arrested and is facing multiple charges, including DUI resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in death, and child endangerment resulting in death.
