LAS VEGAS — A German tourist has confessed to being intoxicated after allegedly causing a hit-and-run accident involving a scooter rider while operating a rental car near the Las Vegas Strip.
According to the arrest report, Seyed Mehrabi, 21, has been charged with DUI resulting in significant bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to reduce speed or exercise due care, possessing an open alcohol container inside the vehicle, and reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily injury.
The incident occurred on September 1 around 7:30 a.m. when Metro Police were alerted to a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Twain Avenue and Paradise Road. A 911 call reported that a man on a scooter had been struck by a black convertible Mustang, which sent him flying into the intersection.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the injured man lying in the road, showing signs of severe trauma including head wounds and multiple broken bones. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care.
Witnesses and surveillance footage from a nearby Tesla revealed that the black Mustang with California plates was traveling eastbound on Sands Avenue at an excessive speed.
The vehicle veered onto the median, causing its tires to blow out, and collided with the scooter rider from behind before fleeing the scene. By 7:34 a.m., as officers were searching for the suspects, they located the damaged Mustang abandoned in the center of a cul-de-sac on Kolson Circle near Paradise Road and East Twain Avenue.
Officers stopped two men walking toward the abandoned car and identified Mehrabi as the driver. During their interaction, Mehrabi exhibited erratic behavior and admitted to being drunk, stating, “You don’t need tests, I am a little drunk.” Further inspection of the Mustang revealed an open alcohol container and a shot of New Amsterdam Peach Dragon fruit vodka near the driver’s side door.
Mehrabi and his passenger explained that they were tourists from Germany, having rented the Mustang in San Francisco before driving to Los Angeles and eventually Las Vegas. They also mentioned meeting two individuals in Las Vegas who encouraged them to drive around the city. However, the two men were not present when officers found Mehrabi and his passenger.
As a result, Mehrabi was arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center, where he is scheduled to appear in court on September 10.
