A Nevada State Police lieutenant, Jacob Fisher, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence (DUI) and speeding at more than 80 miles per hour in a Las Vegas neighborhood. According to Las Vegas Metro police, the arrest occurred on Friday, September 20, when an officer noticed a minivan traveling at excessive speed on Fort Apache Road in the far southwest valley. Fisher was reportedly speeding in a 35 mph zone and driving erratically, with the vehicle kicking up dirt and dust as it sped down the road.
The officer observed Fisher’s vehicle swerving, driving on the “bot dots” and road striping. As Fisher continued speeding, the officer followed him onto Cactus Avenue and into a gated neighborhood. The vehicle eventually came to a stop in a driveway, where the officer activated their emergency lights and siren. Fisher, however, exited the vehicle, briefly glanced at the officer, and walked into his garage, ignoring commands to stop.
Moments later, Fisher emerged from his home and spoke with the officer. By this time, another officer had arrived at the scene. Both officers noticed the smell of alcohol on Fisher, though he denied consuming alcohol. He claimed he was on his way home from dinner and admitted to speeding, confessing to driving 20 miles over the speed limit. Despite his denial of recent drinking, Fisher later admitted to consuming a large amount of alcohol two days earlier.
Fisher underwent a field sobriety test, which he failed. Officers placed him under arrest, and he was charged with driving under the influence. As of Monday, a blood test to confirm his level of impairment was pending. The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol announced that Fisher had been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation was conducted. Although Fisher was released on his own recognizance, he was not scheduled to appear in court until January.
