(Las Vegas Sun) – In a heartbreaking incident on Wednesday evening, two pedestrians waiting for a city bus on Boulder Highway in east Las Vegas lost their lives when they were struck by a car suspected of being driven by an impaired driver, according to Metro Police.
The crash, which occurred around 7:37 p.m. south of Dalhart Street, saw a sedan plow into a bus shelter, resulting in fatal consequences. Alongside the two fatalities, three other pedestrians, including two juveniles, were rushed to University Medical Center with injuries.
The driver, identified as Cynthia Phelps, 64, sustained minor injuries but was found to exhibit signs of impairment. Police subsequently arrested her on DUI charges. The victims of the tragic accident included a 42-year-old male and a 14-year-old boy who were killed, while an 8-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, and a 41-year-old woman suffered serious to critical injuries.
According to police reports, the sedan was traveling northbound on Boulder Highway in the southbound travel lanes at a high speed, eventually mounting the sidewalk and colliding with the victims waiting for the bus.
