Two teens killed in crash after running red light in SE Las Vegas valley.

(8newsnow) — Two teenagers, both aged 16, tragically lost their lives in a collision after reportedly running a red light in the southeast Las Vegas valley, as stated by Metro police.

The incident unfolded on Saturday at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Pecos Road and Hacienda Avenue.

According to investigations based on evidence gathered at the scene and witness testimonies, a Ford Explorer was traveling south on Pecos Road in the left-turn lane, nearing Hacienda, while a Pontiac G6 was heading north on Pecos, approaching a red traffic signal.

The collision ensued when the Ford initiated a left turn, coinciding with the Pontiac disregarding the red light and entering the intersection, leading to a direct impact with the front of the Ford, authorities stated.

Following the collision, the Pontiac veered onto the sidewalk before colliding with a substantial streetlight pole, resulting in both the driver and passenger, both 16-year-olds, being ejected from the vehicle.

Tragically, the passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the driver was rushed to a local hospital. Regrettably, the driver was later pronounced dead, police confirmed.

Authorities emphasized that neither of the teenagers was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The devastating incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations and practicing safe driving behaviors, especially among young drivers. As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of these two young lives and underscores the need for heightened awareness and caution on the roadways.
