Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill Intersection Reopens After Fatal Crash

(review-journal) – In a tragic incident early Tuesday morning, two individuals were killed in a car accident in south Las Vegas. The crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard South and Windmill Lane, near Interstate 15 and Blue Diamond.

According to Las Vegas police, a moped was stationary at a red light when a Ford F-150 pickup collided with it from behind at a high rate of speed. The impact ejected both individuals riding the moped. Subsequently, the pickup ran through the red light and was struck by a 2005 Toyota Corolla that was making a left turn through the intersection. Fortunately, the Corolla driver, Christina Guajardo, escaped injury.

Despite the severity of the collision, the pickup continued moving with the moped lodged beneath its front. Tragically, one moped rider succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the other was pronounced dead at University Medical Center. As of noon, the Clark County coroner’s office had not released their identities.

Compounding the tragedy, the driver of the pickup fled the scene, although authorities later located the truck on a side street with the moped still attached. A search for the driver is ongoing.

Amidst the investigation, three motorists were arrested for driving under the influence after driving through police barricades. The intersection remained closed for several hours, reopening around 7:45 a.m.
