(FOX5) – Two individuals were killed in a car accident on Interstate 11 near Las Vegas, according to Nevada State Police. The incident occurred around 6:53 a.m. on Sunday near mile marker 12, involving a silver Hyundai Elantra traveling southbound in the northbound lanes colliding with a gray Ford Escape.
The head-on collision resulted in both drivers being ejected from their vehicles, an adult male and an adult female, who tragically lost their lives at the scene. Following the crash, the Hyundai came to rest facing southeast, obstructing the northbound right lane and paved shoulder. Conversely, the Ford overturned, facing west, and obstructed the southbound far left travel lane and paved shoulder.
In response, authorities promptly closed both north and southbound travel lanes on I-11 from the U.S. 95/I-11 junction to Boulder City Parkway. The closure remained in effect for several hours while investigators conducted their comprehensive inquiries. Subsequently, all lanes reopened to traffic at approximately 12:15 p.m. following the completion of the investigation.
This unfortunate car accident in Las Vegas serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and maintaining vigilance on the roads to prevent such tragic occurrences.
